Digital deli The Merchant’s Feast launches in Canberra

A new digital deli service has launched in Canberra, promising to deliver gourmet Mediterranean produce right to your door.

The Merchant’s Feast is a Canberra-based online deli, where you can select your products from their pantry, or opt for one of their weekly specials or a grazing box full of goodies.

The owners, siblings Marie and Dominic Vilardi and their mother Anne, have brought The Merchant’s Feast to life. It will operate as a regular deli would – offering cold cut meats sliced fresh to order, fresh-baked bread daily and deli goods like cheese and olives – but customers can order online from the comfort of their own home.

All the produce comes from merchants around Australia and in Europe, and Dominic says the team has spent the past few months trying and testing all the products.

“This has allowed us to uncover some of the most incredible and genuine, local and imported food products that aren’t usually around in delis across Canberra.

“Nonna’s is actually our cousin’s bakery and the recipe is based on the exact one our Nonna brought to Australia over 70 years ago,” he says of the fresh-baked Italian ciabatta on the menu.

The Vilardis were inspired to create the digital deli experience by their “quintessential” Italian upbringing and their love of gathering over good food.

“We would often have our family over for birthdays, christenings, engagements, or even just a simple dinner,” Marie says.

“We feel so lucky to have access to this incredible authentic food that has the capacity to bring our entire family together.

“We not only wanted to make it accessible to the people around us, but to use it as a way of bringing people together, whether it’s to celebrate a special occasion or merely spend quality time together, something that, after 2020, we’ll never take for granted again.”

The Merchant’s Feast will be delivering weekly across Canberra and Queanbeyan from Wednesday to Saturday, with next day delivery for most orders placed before 1pm. To order, visit their website.
