Donated car helps young Canberrans ‘Drive for Life’

Vulnerable young Canberrans will be able to learn to drive thanks to the donation of a car to the Salvation Armyโ€™s Drive for Life program.

Drive for Life helps Canberrans aged 17 to 25, who may otherwise not have access to car lessons or a car to learn to drive in, to practise driving so they can obtain their provisional licences.

The donated car is funded by Len Goodwin, a Canberra local and long-term supporter of the Salvation Army, and by Graham Gulson from Gulsonโ€™s Classic Cars.

โ€œHaving a driverโ€™s licence is a key milestone in a young personโ€™s life and helps them move towards independence,โ€ a Salvation Army spokesperson said.

โ€œBeing able to drive gives young people the choice and control necessary to realise their education, employment, and housing goals.โ€

The Salvation Army is launching the program in the ACT with funding from ACT Government Transport and City Services.
