Drunk protester allegedly strikes police officer, four arrested

A drunk protester has allegedly assaulted a Canberra police officer before being arrested.

Police arrested two people following an altercation after being called to a crowd of protesters around 9pm on Tuesday. Others in the group were ordered to move on.

The detained pair were charged in relation to the assault of a territory official and trespassing on commonwealth land.

Two others also arrested were later released. One after agreeing to keep the peace and the other without charge or condition.

A large group of anti-vaccine mandate protesters have been active in the ACT for a number of weeks.
