Elliott Whitehead re-signed with Raiders until end of 2024

Canberra Raiders captain Elliott Whitehead has re-signed with the club on a new deal that will see him in green until the end of 2024.

Already contracted until the end of next year, the two-year extension means Whitehead will have played an impressive nine seasons for the green machine by the end of the deal.

Since arriving at the club at the beginning of the 2016 season from the Super League, the England international has played an astonishing 138 matches for the club.

He’s long been lauded as one of Canberra’s most consistent and best performers.

The skipper said he’s happy to have secured his future, having loved “every minute of playing for the Raiders and living in Canberra”.

“It was an easy decision for me and my partner to stay with the club,” Whitehead said.

“The people in Canberra are great and since I’ve been here everyone’s made me feel welcome, so me and my partner just love being here.”

Having been named captain this year, Whitehead will return to the side for this weekend’s match against the Newcastle Knights after missing a few weeks with a shoulder complaint.

After winning their last three matches, the 31-year-old backrower said his focus now is on helping the team continue their momentum for the remainder of the season and make finals.

We’ve got a great group of players here and we know we can continue our recent form and be there at the end of the year.”

Raiders CEO Don Furner said Whitehead’s re-signing gives the club some much needed experience in the side and a player who always performs when he takes the field.

“Elliott has been year in year out one of our most consistent performers and has developed into a really strong leader in the club,” Furner said. “It’s great news for the club and our members that Elliott is staying with us for the next three seasons.”
