Canberrans are invited to immerse themselves in a different kind of music experience at Ainslie Arts Centre on Friday and Saturday evenings, 23-24 September. Mini festival Ainslie Salon: On Location showcases the art of field recording, sound art, and electronic music.
Stepping beyond the boundaries of the recording booths, field recording explores the broader world, discovering natural and manmade noises to alter the musical experience. Originally driven by artists with a fascination for natural sounds, the method was used to discover the hidden musical composition of nature. Like all forms of art, the principles have been expanded and adapted; now they include manmade sounds like those of passing traffic to enhance the audio experience.
Eight interstate and local sound experimentalists will transcend musical performance with shows across both nights. Ainslie Salon has been curated to offer an experience like no other, aiming to immerse locals in a deep, intimate listening experience that explores sonic boundaries in real-time. The carefully selected artists are at the forefront of experimental composition, musical exploration and improvised performance.
On Friday night, prepare to be amazed by the sound art created by local artists, Leah Blankendaal and Melt, who are joined by interstate multidisciplinary masters, Del Lumanta and Lydian Dunbar.
Then on Saturday, audiences will be delighted by the musical stylings of Canberra-based Ben Marston and trm-b; travelling across the border to join them are salllvage and Lisa Lerkenfeldt.
Doors open at 6pm with shows starting from 6.30pm; tickets are priced from $29 plus booking fee. Ainslie Arts Centre strongly encourages people to wear masks inside their centre.
