Extradited man faces Ainslie assault and confinement charges

ACT Policing has extradited a 35-year-old man from Sydney to face charges relating to an incident in Ainslie in March.

The man is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.

He will face one count of burglary, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of forcible confinement, and two counts of threatening a participant in a criminal investigation.

Bail will be opposed.

Police will allege the man broke into a home in Ainslie on the evening of 4 March. The man, who was unknown to the occupants, awoke a sleeping woman in her bedroom, and assaulted her.

A second resident of the home entered the bedroom, and the man also allegedly assaulted her.

The man then allegedly threatened the women, and forced them to shower and to wipe down surfaces, in an effort to conceal forensic evidence.

An extensive investigation, including the examination of forensic evidence collected from the scene, identified the 35-year-old man (who was on parole).

He was located at an address in Sydney. With the assistance of NSW police and AFP Eastern Command, he was arrested on Wednesday, 18 May.

Waverly Local Court, NSW, granted an order for his extradition.
