Fatal Adelaide Avenue crash: Police closing in on suspects

A stolen black Genesis GV80 SUV picked up two people involved in a fatal collision on Adelaide Avenue in April, ACT Policing states.

In the early hours of Wednesday, 17 April, a white Toyota Camry ran off the road, hit a concrete barrier, and turned onto its roof in the middle of the road.

One occupant, a 15-year-old boy, was thrown out of the vehicle, and later died in hospital of his injuries.

The stolen Genesis GV80 was found, partially burnt out, in Theodore on the day of the fatal collision.

Investigators say forensic testing of both vehicles shows the driver of the Camry was one of the two people that the Genesis picked up.

Police say they are closing in on the two people; they have renewed calls for the two people who were in the Camry when it collided with the wall to come forward.

“The information gathered by our investigative team is leading us towards two particular suspects,” Detective Sergeant Jonathon Turkich from ACT Policing’s Major Collision Team said.

“To those people, I would say now is the time to come forward and take responsibility for your involvement in this tragic incident.

“I understand it is difficult, it must be incredibly stressful to live in fear around your involvement in the death of someone you likely knew as a friend.

“But make no mistake, this will not be going away.”

Police are also seeking anyone who saw the Genesis SUV on the morning of 17 April to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.  Please quote 7726381. Information can be provided anonymously.
