The ACT has recorded its seventh road fatality of 2022 after 20-year-old man died following a head-on collision on Hindmarsh Drive near O’Malley last night, Thursday 19 May.
About 10.55pm, ACT Policing received reports of a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of Hindmarsh Drive, travelling east in the westbound lanes.
Shortly after, reports of a collision on Hindmarsh Drive (west of the intersection with Mugga Lane between Red Hill and O’Malley) were received. Emergency services responded and two significantly damaged vehicles were located at the scene.
ACT Fire & Rescue extracted a person from each vehicle with both suffering critical injuries. Sadly, a 20-year-old man passed away a short time later in hospital.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway, including the possibility that a second vehicle may have also been travelling east in the westbound lanes of Hindmarsh Drive prior to the collision.
Police are urging anyone who captured dash-cam footage any vehicle driving in an unusual manner in the area around the time of the collision, or who has any information about this incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Quote reference number P2075137.
