Three road safety projects will help Canberra locals, visitors, and freight get to their destination sooner and safer, the Federal Government has announced.
The projects include improvements for cyclist safety along Cotter Road and the Belconnen Bikeway along Hayden Drive, and a new safety barrier along Brindabella Road.
Construction work will begin soon, and is expected to be completed by mid-2022, said Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja.
“Canberrans will quickly start reaping the benefits,” he said. The new safety upgrades and improvements would “help reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries occurring on our roads”.
These road safety upgrades and improvements will cost $2.25 million. Senator Seselja said the funding was a big win for Canberrans.
“The Liberal-National Government is again building on our record of delivering for Canberra. Since 2013, the Liberal-National Government has committed more than $1.2 billion towards road and freight infrastructure projects in ACT, supporting 1,905 jobs and boosting the economy.”
Federal politicians say the projects will create 15 jobs and new opportunities for businesses and suppliers, deliver an important economic boost, and help drive the region’s economic recovery.
The Government has already invested $1.5 billion under the Road Safety Program in more than 1,050 road safety projects across Australia.
