Female basketball coach charged with abusing 15-year-old girl

ACT Policing have arrested 39-year-old woman Jesamine Alice Wheeler following an investigation into her alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.

Police will allege that the woman met and abused the child while she was the victimโ€™s basketball coach in 2009.

Yesterday 6 June, a search warrant was executed at the womanโ€™s residence, where she was later charged with four counts of sexual intercourse with a young person under 16 years, and two historical family violence offences against the same victim, being choking another person, and possessing an offensive weapon with intent.

The woman is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

Wheeler, at the time aged 20, allegedly met the victim in 2005 when she was 11 years old.

When the victim was 20, Wheeler is accused of attacking the victim. In one instance, Wheeler is said to have pushed her into a wall and choked her. In a separate incident, Wheeler is also accused of holding a knife to the victim’s throat.

Anyone with information relating to this matter is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via theโ€ฏCrime Stoppers ACT websiteโ€ฏ, quoting reference number 7767511. Information can be provided anonymously.

There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences in the ACT. It doesnโ€™t matter how much time may have passed and it is never too late to report.
