Aidan Sezer, a key figure in Canberra’s charge to the 2019 NRL grand final, has played his last match Super League match for Huddersfield after agreeing to join Leeds for 2022.
Sezer, who was short-listed for Man of Steel in his first season in Super League in 2020, is currently sidelined with an ankle injury sustained while playing for the Combined Nations All Stars against England in June.
“Aidan and I spoke about six or seven weeks ago about which way we wanted to go,” Huddersfield coach Ian Watson said.
“Aidan’s made his decision and I think that’s the best for him and the best for us.
“For the group, it’s important that we concentrate on what we do have next year, not on what we don’t have and we move forward together.”
Watson also confirmed former Newcastle prop James Gavet has played his last match for the club.
The 30-year-old Australian has made 21 appearances for the Giants since joining them from Canberra ahead of the 2020 season but has been given permission to return home for personal reasons.
Sezer joined the Raiders at the beginning of the 2016 season and was part of the clubs’ two finals campaigns in 2016 and 2019, including his position as starting halfback for the 2019 Grand Final.Â
He played 84 matches for the club in his time in Green, including 18 appearances in 2019.
