Flower and plant giveaway in Braddon on Wednesday

More than a thousand flowers and plants will be given away in Braddon on Wednesday (13 September), as the City Renewal Authority and Canberra Environment Centre invites Canberrans to learn about gardening in small spaces.

It will provide an opportunity for locals who live in apartments and townhouses to get tips and advice on how to turn their balconies and courtyards into thriving and sustainable gardens.

Various plants are available, such as Adenanthos Light House, Bidens Bidy Boom Red Eye, Coprosma Tequila Sunrise, Erysimum Apricot Twist, Erysimum Bowles Mauve, Leucothoe Little Flames, Leucothoe Burning Love, Limonium perezii blue, Lobularia Stream Lavender, Pansy Cool Wave Mix, Pansy Matrix Blotch Mix, Pansy Matrix Midnight Glow, and Nemesia Mix.

The event includes:

  • practical tips and advice on plants in small spaces, from containers and watering to fertilisers and mulching
  • composting in small spaces, including worm farms and bokashi, and
  • when to plant and other considerations, such as sunlight and shade

The giveaway is taking place as part of Landcare ACT’s Canberra Festival of Nature, which runs throughout spring and encourages the community to connect with nature.

It provides locals with the chance to take some nature home with them, re-homing the seasonal flowers and plants that bring beauty to the city centre.

Attendees will also be able to chat with the Authority’s team members about the various design and development projects now underway throughout the City Centre and Braddon.
