Full-strength Cavalry sweep Blue Sox 4-0

The Lifeline Canberra Cavalry was at the full-strength for the first time this season and it showed as they took a convincing 4-0 series win against the Sydney Blue Sox in Lismore.

The Cavalry dominated the first contest against the Blue Sox on Friday 22 January, scoring six runs in the opening two innings to set up a 9-3 victory.

The Cavs kept on rolling in the double header on Saturday 23 January, winning both games 7-1 and 3-1.

The best game was saved for last, but the Cavs were still too strong to round out the perfect weekend with an 8-6 triumph. The Cavalry outscored the Blue Sox 27-11 over the four games.

The team added some much-needed strength to their roster with season debuts from star David Kandilas, starting pitcher Dean Aldridge, newcomer Justin Erasmus, and more.

Cavalry GM Sunny Singh said the club knows they can compete with anybody at full strength.

“Nobody within our organisation is surprised to see what this squad can do at full strength,” Singh said.

“It’s been a long time coming, and this series is somewhat of a warning shot going forward. At full strength, this is a squad to be reckoned with and we’re well and truly in the mix this season.”

Tucker Nathans was named the University of Canberra Player of the Series, reaching base in 11 of his 18 plate appearances and hitting 2 home runs.

The games were held in Lismore after an announcement last week to avoid the border restrictions that were in place on the Greater Sydney area.

“The boys are almost accustomed to being asked to change plans at the last minute this season,” Singh said.

“The fact that they’ve been able to put on a show with such short notice, is a testament to the character and resolve in this team.”

The full-strength Cavalry, headlined by returning star David Kandilas, will be on display for the first time at home this weekend from Thursday 28 January to Sunday 31 January. Tickets available at http://gocavsgo.com.au
