They have been described as an “essential item” by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and now jigsaw puzzles and board games are being enlisted to raise vital funds to help keep Lifeline Canberra’s crisis support service answering calls.
Nationwide, Lifeline is currently experiencing a 25% increase in calls. The increase in calls has been attributed to Australians looking for help as they grapple with COVID-19 on the back of the summer’s devastating bushfires.
Locally, Lifeline Canberra has just listed board games, puzzles and jigsaws for sale via eBay, with all funds raised going directly to the local crisis support service 13 11 14, supporting the Canberra community through the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Simply head to the Lifeline Canberra eBay site, sort by “newly listed” and browse through the items available for local pick-up only.
Items may be picked up from the Lifeline Canberra Warehouse (40 Heffernan Street, Mitchell) on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 9am and 12pm.
When arriving to pick up your goods, people are asked to not leave their cars. Just give your horn a honk and someone will bring your purchase to your car, and hand your wrapped items to you via your car window.
So this is the ideal time to get your hands on a puzzle or board game from Lifeline Canberra to help keep you and your household entertained during the COVID-19 shutdowns whilst also helping a great cause.
Canberra photographer and gallery owner Scott Leggo, who recently launched a new range of puzzles featuring his own landscape photographs, summed up the benefits of puzzle play.
“Puzzles are perfect for individuals and families at home, wanting to keep busy together and be creative, engaging both their left and right brains,” he said.
