Get creative with Shirty Science this week

If you’re ready to combine your love for science and creativity, tune into Shirty Science’s Instagram page during National Science Week (15-23 August).

Shirty Science Season Home will be featuring interviews with five of Canberra’s leading scientists from 7pm nightly on 17-21 August, sharing their knowledge on a range of different topics.

Those tuning in will be asked to create a shirt design that would spark a conversation about what they have learnt during the interview.

“From Indigenous water management to artificial intelligence, we are showcasing scientists from across the STEM sector who are eager to engage curious minds about their research,” said Shirty Science founder, Madison Hartill-Law.

Entrants will have the chance to have their very own design featured in the Shirty Science Season Home collection and receive a $5 cut from every shirt sold.

The collaboration, which usually brings scientists and artists together, has adapted its process due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“Every Shirty Science artist is always immensely proud of their ability to transform scientific concepts into designs that spark conversations – Season Home will mean many more have that opportunity,” Ms Hartill-Law said.

The program has now run for four years and delivered over 45 different T-shirt designs to purchase.

Those wishing to participate will have two weeks to submit their T-shirt designs, at which point Season Home scientists will select the winners and announce them on their Instagram page.

Not super artistic but want to get your hands on a potential science tee? You will be able to purchase them online.

The program started from a project during Ms Hartill-Law’s Master of Science Communication degree at the Australian National University and is supported by National Science Week and Inspiring ACT.
