GIVIT helps divert pre-loved items from landfill to those in need

Itโ€™s National Recycling Week, 8-14 November, and not-for-profit donation platform GIVIT is setting a challenge for Canberrans to see how many tonnes of pre-loved household items can be kept out of landfill and into the hands of those who need them most.

GIVIT is a free donation platform for charities, eliminating the need for physical warehousing, sorting and disposing of unwanted items by directly linking donors with charities who are sourcing items for those in need.

GIVIT ACT Engagement Officer Kristi Clark said there are already 400 charities across the ACT region registered with GIVIT.

โ€œThe majority of donations requested by our registered organisations are items that many Canberrans already have in their homes,โ€ said Kristi.

โ€œWhen people donate their pre-loved items through GIVIT, they are donating directly to someone in need and instantly providing support for that recipient. GIVIT provides donors peace of mind that their donations are directly helping others and not hindering services or the environment.โ€

Donors can visit givit.org.au/whatโ€™s-needed and select ACT to see exactly whatโ€™s needed across the region.

Usable pre-loved items from the ACT Bulky Waste collection program are already retrieved and offered to GIVIT ACT registered charities for those in genuine need.ย

The ACTโ€™s Bulky Waste program enables GIVIT to access ongoing donations for the most vulnerable in the community, whilst reducing landfill.
