Gold Creek School a COVID exposure site, 2000 contacts

Gold Creek School in Nicholls has been added to the ACT’s growing list of COVID exposure sites after the mystery infection of a high school student.

The 14-year-old attended Gold Creek School between Monday and Wednesday while infectious. It’s unclear how they contracted the virus.

ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry said the number of contacts for the school is up to 2,000.

Staff, students and visitors at Gold Creek School, which has a primary and secondary campus, must get tested and quarantine for 14 days.

People who were at the school’s after-hours care centre, early childhood centre or completing construction work at the school over that time are considered secondary contacts.

Staff and families from the nearby Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School are considered casual contacts.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 are caught up in the school infection.

“All impacted staff and families are being contacted today through the Education Directorate working closely with ACT Health,” Ms Berry said. A pop-up testing centre is being planned for the contacts of the Gold Creek School.
