Community sporting clubs across the ACT have the chance to win up to $2,000 with nominations now open for this year’s Alcohol and Drug Foundation Good Sports Awards.
The annual Good Sports Awards celebrate the Good Sports clubs and volunteers that are dedicated to making their clubs the very best they can be.
“The Good Sports Awards recognise the community sporting clubs that go above and beyond in making their clubs healthy and inclusive environments,” said the Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s ACT manager, Greg Howe.
“The awards are the ultimate trophy for any Good Sports club. They shine the spotlight on success, celebrate the volunteers who are the backbone of Good Sports clubs and provide winning clubs with the recognition they deserve,” Mr Howe said.
Local Good Sports clubs are encouraged to nominate before 30 October, for their chance to be crowned a winner at a ceremony early next year and receive cash prizes.

Good Sports clubs may qualify to enter multiple categories. This year’s categories include Club of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Safe Transport Award, Mental Health Excellence Award, Junior Club of the Year, New Club of the Year, and a new Community Club of the Year Award.
“Whether it’s your club’s champion volunteer, looking after your junior members or supporting club members’ mental health, you know your club’s biggest strength. We encourage your Good Sports club to nominate today for a chance to win,” Mr Howe said.
Good Sports is Australia’s largest community health sports program, helping to build strong community sporting clubs across Australia for over 20 years.
Working with more than 10,000 local sports clubs, the program supports clubs to set up better environments for players, volunteers, supporters, and officials – helping to tackle tricky topics such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, mental health, and safe transport.
“Community sporting clubs are often at the heart of community and can play a really important role when it comes to modelling healthy behaviours and reducing and preventing the risk of alcohol and other drug harms,” Mr Howe said.
In the ACT, Good Sports is funded by the Australian Government and managed by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
