Greene becomes Giant for life with contract extension

GWS Giants stand-in captain Toby Greene has extended his contract with the club until the end of 2026.

Greene signed a six-year deal with the club back in 2018 and now adds a further two years to his stay in Sydney.

The 27-year-old is having a remarkable season up forward for the Giants, kicking 19 goals and averaging 18.6 disposals a game.

Greene seems to have taken his game to a new level since stepping in for captain Stephen Coniglio who went down injured in Round 3.

The team has also improved with Greene at the helm, winning three of their past four matches after starting the season 0-3.

Greene said he was enjoying leading the club and was never going anywhere else.

“I’ve always known my future was at the Giants, it’s been my home since I was 18,” he said.

“We’ve got a young and exciting group this season and I’m privileged to lead them out until Cogs (Stephen Coniglio) returns.

“It’s been a really enjoyable start to the season and I’m looking forward to being back in Sydney in front of our orange army this weekend.”

Giants General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said it was easy for the club to give Greene another two years.

“Toby’s obviously a star of the competition and is having a brilliant start to the season,” McCartney said.

“He’s flourished with the added responsibility this season which is really pleasing.

“It was a pretty easy option for us to add another couple of years to his contract, we’ve always known he’ll be a GIANT for life.”

The Giants sit just one win outside the top 8 as they host the Essendon Bombers at Giants Stadium on Saturday 8 May, 1.45pm. Click here for tickets.
