The Handmade Market has been postponed to next month due to the evolving COVID-19 situation in NSW.
Handmade Australia managing director Julie Nichols said event organisers made the decision last night, based on advice from ACT Health. Handmade Australia was set to showcase 270 stallholders – many of whom travel from around the country to sell their wares.
“We just had to make sure that the safety and wellbeing of our community, our stallholders, our customers was our number one priority,” Ms Nicholls said.
The Handmade Market has been postponed to Friday 16 – Sunday 18 July at EPIC.
Ms Nichols said the decision is a “bit of devastating déjà vu”.
Handmade Australia had to cancel their market plans last year due to the virus and were forced online with only six days of preparation.
Ms Nichols said while postponing the event devastating, the decision has prompted them to bring forward an exciting announcement: a Handmade Australia e-commerce site, launching tomorrow.
“The one saving grave for us is that… we decided that we needed something a little more, just another way to be able to support our designers and producers.
The new site will replace the virtual market, with more than 6,500 Australian made products to choose from.
“That was going to be our exciting news in a couple of weeks, but that’s going to be our exciting news tomorrow.”
An email has been sent to ticket holders to inform them of the new dates. Tickets have been cancelled for this weekend’s event and shoppers will need to re-book their free tickets for the July dates.
