Have you heard? Black Mountain Summit Walk

Black Mountain Summit Walk

This year is not only the 50th anniversary of Black Mountain being declared a conservation reserve, but also the 20th anniversary of the official opening of the Summit Walk, which was a joint project between ACT Government, Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) and Telstra. On Saturday 25 July, select one of two timeslots – 9.30am-12pm or 1.30-4pm – to join Friends of Black Mountain for a walk up the north-eastern slopes of Black Mountain to the summit. Local plant ecologist Michael Doherty will be talking about trees, shrubs and fire, and participants see some winter flowering plants. You’re welcome to walk up and back, but if you would prefer not to walk down, ask a friend to meet you at the top. The Summit Walk has steep sections, so it is suitable for fit walkers (including children over the age of 12). Meet at the Visitor Centre, ANBG. Cost: Gold coin donation. Bookings are essential. Places are limited, please email your name and phone number to [email protected], or phone Libby (6296 1936) or Linda (0437 298 711). It is also helpful if we need to contact you if arrangements need to change (e.g. adverse weather). Bring friends, water, snacks. Wear sturdy shoes, hat, and sun cream … and winter woollies in layers in case it is cold.
