Cupid’s Undie Run
Raising funds for Neurofibromatosis (NF) research Cupid’s Undie Run has been a major fundraiser for the Children’s Tumour Foundation in Australia for almost 10 years, where charity runs were held in 15 towns and cities. NF is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 people and causes tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body, including the brain and spine. In 2021, Cupid’s is going virtual, with free registration open to anyone, anywhere in Australia. The Cupid’s Undie Run will start with an online version of its signature run, before offering up cheeky new challenges each day for two weeks. GIVIT donation of the week: air conditioning units
A local crisis accommodation supporting women and children escaping domestic and family violence is in urgent need of relief from the summer heat. The facility houses up to 30 women, plus six additional families of women with children. This is a place of refuge, safety and a fresh start for these women who have overcome immense challenges in escaping life-threatening situations. Many of them arrive at the crisis accommodation with only the clothing on their backs and a great deal of courage in their hearts. The organisation supports the women with three meals a day, a comfortable place to sleep and access to support services so they may begin to create a new life. With a very limited budget, the organisation is looking for a local donation of air conditioning units to outfit the common spaces, lounge, dining and meeting room. Creating a more comfortable space for the women to connect, rest and recharge is vital for their safety and development. Any donation of room cooling units will make a world of difference to these women’s lives. Donations can be collected by the organisation. SPARK JobTrainer Industry Explorer Program
The Ginninderry SPARK Training & Employment Initiative, in partnership with Skills Canberra, Canberra Institute of Technology and Uniting Care Kippax, is running a new program for young people (17-24) in 2021. The SPARK JobTrainer Industry Explorer Program has been designed to give young people an opportunity to explore a variety of potential career paths and gain a range of licences to help them decide where they want to go next. The program will deliver accredited training across seven industry sectors that include: community services; conservation land management; construction; cyber security; early childhood education & care; horticulture; hospitality. Participants will also receive a range of value adds that are often not included in qualification training that include: White Card; Asbestos Awareness; Senior First Aid; Personal Protective Equipment; Responsible Service of Alcohol; Barista training; Road Ready (for those who don’t have their L’s); 3 driving lessons (for those on L’s); Assistance with resumes, interviews and job applications; Assistance with sourcing work experience placements and jobs. The SPARK JobTrainer Industry Explorer Program is fully funded for young people living in the ACT who meet the eligibility criteria. An information/enrolment session for the first program will be held on Wednesday 10 February 11am-12.30pm at CIT Bruce library.
