Gift of Life’s 2021 DonateLife Walk goes virtual
Gift of Life’s annual DonateLife Walk raises awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation and registration. While the Walk has been held as a mass-participation event around Lake Burley Griffin for the past 15 years, the 2021 event will be virtual. Gift of Life is asking participants to sign up online and walk up to 5km anytime, anywhere during the week of 22-28 February. Participants are encouraged to gather a small group and share their Walk photos and videos on social media. GIVIT donation of the week: Pre-loved IT devices
Coming out of the year that was 2020, GIVIT has seen an increasing need for pre-loved IT items to find their way into a new home; be it a single mother commencing a degree after escaping domestic violence, refugee families working to find employment while supporting their children’s education, or men and women re-entering the workforce after overcoming addiction, homelessness or incarceration. Any donation of pre-loved laptops, tablets or mobile phones in good condition will make all the difference to our neighbours working to rise above and beyond the challenges they have faced. Donations can be delivered to, collected by or posted to the organisation. To donate, visit givit.org.au/donate-items, search by category ‘Computers and Mobile Devices’ in your local area. After you pledge the item, you will be contacted by the relevant organisation to arrange pick-up, post or drop-off. GIVIT supports more than 350 charities and community groups across the Capital Region by matching your items with people who need them most.
HCCA’s Consumer Participation Training
Health Care Consumers’ Association (HCCA) presents a free, two-day workshop in ‘Consumer Participation Training’ on Tuesday 23 February and 2 March 10am-3pm. Participants will learn more about: navigating the health system- what’s available here in the ACT, and how to use services; staying safe in the health system – understanding the risks of health care; how to be an advocate for yourself and loved ones; doing systemic advocacy for your community, including how to become a consumer representative on a health service committee, and the skills and knowledge needed for this role. Probus celebrates 45 years in Australia
From exciting adventures to casual outings, for more than four decades Probus Clubs have been offering retirees the opportunity to discover new interests with new friends. Goulburn Combined Probus Club
The Goulburn Combined Probus Club is for active retirees, male and female, and recently celebrated its first birthday with a short meeting followed by fun games and quizzes. National Pet Adoption Month
Throughout March, PETstock Assist will celebrate its inaugural National Pet Adoption Month as an extension of its annual initiative National Pet Adoption Day, to help change the lives of rescue pets and humans in an effort to help break the cycle of pet homelessness in Australia. Over the past six years, PETstock Assist has helped rehome more than 12,000 animals through its initiative and changed perceptions and behaviour on pet adoption in Australia by providing much needed education on the topic.
