Have you heard? PANDA Week 2020

PANDA Week 2020

PANDA Week 2020 is on 8-14 November, aiming to raise awareness, and encourage discussion, of a challenge that affects one in five women, and one in 10 men, each year – perinatal anxiety, depression and mental illness. PANDA Week 2020 is ever more important given the additional pressures faced by soon-to-be and new parents in the current environment. Think, not be able to physically access healthcare providers, no new parents’ groups or education classes, or not even being able to let your loved ones hold your newborn baby. That’s why Canberra’s Community Champion for PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia) – Antonette Gaffney – is bringing attention to this important cause by running a GoFundMe campaign. Having experienced first-hand the crippling impacts of depression and anxiety during pregnancy, Antonette accessed PANDA’s free support and counselling services and found them a welcome source of comfort, understanding and relief. To help ensure these resources remain accessible and free to all, Antonette’s GoFundMe online campaign seeks to raise over $1,500 to support PANDA’s work. More info: gofundme.com/f/panda-week-2020.

GIVIT donation of the week: washing machines

One of the most requested items on GIVIT’s online donation portal are washing machines. Whether it be a family living in poverty, previously homeless men and women who now have a roof over their head but no appliances, or families escaping domestic violence, starting a new life from scratch. Any pre-loved washing machines in good working order which can be donated to those in need will greatly appreciated. The registered support organisation receiving the donation is responsible for tag and testing of all electrical items to ensure the safety of the recipient. If you are able tag and test prior to donating that would be a significant contribution. Donations can be delivered to or picked up by the organisation. To donate, visit givit.org.au/donate-items, search by category “Washing Machine” to view requests located in your area. If you can’t find a request that matches your donation, list your donation in our Online Warehouse. Please click the ‘Offer a Donation’ button at the bottom of the page and submit the relevant details for your donation along with a corresponding photo. After you pledge the item, you will be contacted by the relevant organisation to arrange pick-up, post or drop-off.
