Sanitiser helping RMHC
From Wednesday 27 May, McDonald’s restaurants in the Canberra region have been selling hand sanitiser as part of their convenience menu and donating 100% of the profits directly to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). The funds raised through this initiative will support RMHC programs across the country. Donations to RMHC will be while stocks last.
GIVIT donation of the week: Sewing machines
A local organisation that offers a humanitarian resettlement program is looking for sewing machines for their clients. The women have sewn for years in their homes and having access to a machine now will provide a way to make clothing and other items for their families, while being a creative and therapeutic outlet during these uncertain times. Any pre-loved sewing machines in good working order will be greatly appreciated. Delivery options: Items can be dropped-off to the charity. To donate, visit givit.org.au/items-needed, search ‘Sewing Machines’ and select requests located in ACT. After you pledge the item, you will be contacted by the relevant charity to arrange pick-up, post or drop-off. Lions Community Bookshop re-opens
The Lions Club of Queanbeyan Community Bookshop at 146-148 Monaro Street, Queanbeyan reopens 10am today, Thursday 4 June. Lions looks forward to the return of regular customers and to new customers, and the support of volunteers old and new. Come and browse the great selection of secondhand books, DVDs, CDs – books $1 and $2; DVDs and CDs $1. To support safe shopping, the bookshop re-opens as a COVIDsafe site and offers customers cashless transactions ($5 min) via EFTPOS tap and go. Cash payments are possible if customer preferred. Lions welcomes donations of good quality books, DVDs and CDs and safe handling practices are in place to receive, isolate and clean these before they go on display for sale. RSPCA Cupcake Day
Animal lovers and sweet tooths should preheat their ovens and pre-register now for the RSPCA’s Cupcake Day with this year’s fundraiser moved to a new spring-time date due to ongoing community health and safety concerns. Charity stall
Relay for Life team, the Bold Bandannas, will hold a charity stall at the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets on the weekend of 20-21 June 8am-5pm. There will be: beanies; homemade preserves, pickles, chutney, lemon butter, sugar reduced preserves; a range of handsewn items, including children’s dress-up clothes, handknitted doll’s clothes, crocheted hand towels, and knitted coathangers; plants and worm juice for your plants. Restoring habitat
Charity partner for Australia’s National Parks, the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW), and global reforestation not-for-profit, One Tree Planted, have announced a five-year project to plant up to one million trees in Bushfire Recovery Nurseries around Australia. FNPW is working with governments and community partners to assess priority areas in NSW, ACT, Victoria and SA, with a focus on rebuilding habitats for affected species. Trees from the Bushfire Recovery Nurseries will be planted in national parks across Australia, as well as other public and private lands that have been affected by bushfires.Â
