GIVIT seeks single pram

GIVIT is working with a not-for-profit organisation in the ACT that provides support to people living on low to moderate incomes or experiencing financial difficulty. They are requesting the donation of a single pram for a mother who had escaped a domestic violence situation. This mother has two children and is also expecting her third child. She cannot afford to buy a single pram as she has no source of income and only relies on Centrelink payments. Mum is trying her best to rebuild her life with her children despite financial difficulty and your donation will greatly help during their time of need. 50,000 Steps for Dementia Research

Around 100 residents of Goodwin Retirement Village in Crace will be walking 50,000 steps to raise funds for research into a cure for dementia. We plan to walk 50,000 steps in 12 hours, 7am to 7pm on Thursday 21 March around the Village to raise funds. Our oldest resident, who is aged 98, is signed up! MarchMingle charity walk

Charity Stall

Kangara Waters mini market

Kangara Waters Retirement Village, 2 Joy Cummings Place, Belconnen will hold a mini market on Saturday 23 March 8.30am-12.30pm. Stalls include: Trash and treasure, jewellery, books, CDs, DVDs, homemade cakes and other goodies, handmade craft items and cards plus our famous Easter chickens (with Easter eggs inside). Officeworks’ Back to School Appeal

Canberrans have helped Officeworks Fyshwick and Belconnen provide essential education support to 31 children impacted by poverty by raising more than $21,500 for children’s education charity, The Smith Family. From 26 December to 11 February, Officeworks Fyshwick and Belconnen’s fundraising has contributed to the total $1.3 million raised nationally by Officeworks’ 2024 Back to School Appeal. Funds raised will go to The Smith Family’s Learning for Life sponsorship program, helping 2,000 children and families impacted by poverty afford the cost of their child’s essential school supplies, as well as providing personal support and extra educational programs to help students stay motivated and connected to their learning; thesmithfamily.com.au

Westfield Local Heroes

The 2024 Westfield Local Heroes program invites Canberrans to nominate the unsung heroes in our community, who go above and beyond to make a positive change for the people around them, the environment or other important community causes. The program offers $20,000 and $5,000 grants, totalling $1.26 million annually, to provide support to community organisations and the work they do. Nominations close on 18 March. The community vote will be held between 20 August and 9 September to determine the Westfield Local Heroes at each centre, with the grant recipients announced on 15 October. Epilepsy ACT Community Training

Throughout the year, Epilepsy ACT runs community training sessions designed to make our region a safer place for people living with epilepsy. The training covers two key topics: Understanding and Managing Epilepsy, and Administration of Emergency Medication. Training is free for a person living with epilepsy, a family member or unpaid carer of someone living with epilepsy. If you are a teacher, support worker, disability worker, colleague or friend, the discounted cost for this community training is: $180 per person for both courses; $100 for one course (Understanding and Managing Epilepsy is a prerequisite to the second course). Training is held at Epilepsy ACT, Grant Cameron Community Centre, 27 Mulley Street, Holder.
