GIVIT donation of the week: sensory garden supplies
One of the organisations registered with GIVIT in the the Snowy Monaro region is a small not-for-profit that supports families and children living with disabilities to reach their full potential. The organisation is working to create a sensory garden for the children and families to enjoy. The garden will be used for therapy-based play, providing different experiences for the children to touch, smell and explore the world around them. The organisation is in need of numerous, different items, that with their limited budget can only be sourced with the support of their greater community. The items needed include: wooden sleepers/planks, garden posts, old tyres for garden beds, large shade cloth, tall gate for a safe entrance, pavers and stepping stones, garden furniture, outdoor paint supplies, garden figurines and adult work boots. The organisation supports over 200 families in the Monaro region and, with the addition of a sensory garden, their therapeutic offerings will positively impact many lives within their community. Red Dove pre-loved clothes
Red Dove pre-loved clothing shop has reopened following six months’ closure due to COVID restrictions. Final dates for the remainder of the year are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 26-28 November at Tuggeranong Uniting Church, Comrie Street, Wanniassa (opposite Erindale back carpark). Lots of new summer stock. Free goods continue to be available for fire-affected families.
Adamas Nexus
Adamas Nexus is a bi-monthly self-help support group for women who have survived domestic violence and abuse and are looking for ongoing support through the rest of their lives. This is a non-facilitated group; there is no advice, counselling or guidance provided during the meetings. The program provides connections and support needed to help women regain their inner power and worthiness to go forward in life and thrive. This group is complementary to any support services that may already be in place for abuse survivors. Potential attendees are first screened to ensure that they are ready to attend the meetings, otherwise they are referred to crisis support services. With The Big Issue celebrating its 21st anniversary next year, The Big Issue 2021 Calendar is now available for $15 from vendors, who earn 60% of the cover price and a meaningful income. Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal
The effects of the Australian bushfires and global pandemic being felt across the country head led to the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal launching on its earliest date in its 33-year history (19 October). The Appeal’s charity partner, The Salvation Army, is bracing for an influx of community members who will be looking for support due to the impact of Covid-19, many of whom haven’t required assistance before. The appeal ends on 24 December, at Kmart stores across Australia.
The gift of music
Australian musical icon Don Spencer OAM’s collection of greatest hits and musical education products make the ideal gifts for youngsters this Christmas with proceeds going towards Don’s foundation, the Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF).
