Homeless man charged following stabbing incident in Belconnen

A 26-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with multiple offences following a stabbing incident in Belconnen last Friday.  

About 1pm on Friday 23 August, police responded to reports of an altercation between two men at a residence on Ranken Loop in Belconnen, during which one man was stabbed. 

Police attended and provided first aid to the victim before he was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics. The man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.  

Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 28 August, officers from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations attended a homeless shelter in north Canberra and arrested a 26-year-old man. A subsequent search at the premises located a knife and other items which were taken for forensic examination.

The man was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm, making a reckless threat to inflict grievous bodily harm and damaging property. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today, 29 August.

ACT Policing is seeking dash-cam footage from drivers who were in the vicinity of Ranken Loop, Totterdell Street or Luxton Street, Belconnen from 12:30pm through to 2pm last Friday.
