Hundreds of local cricketers to benefit from new competition

A new local cricket competition will see 264 Canberra cricketers competing against high level competitors and expand the ACT’s current cricket program.

The CDC Bash, sponsored by CDC Data Centres, will sport a T20 format for U12/13, U14/15 and U16 males, Senior Men and Women, the Meteors and the Female Pathway program.

The U17/18/19 Men’s competition will also take part in the competition but have not confirmed if it will be in the T20 format.

Cricket ACT CEO James Allsopp welcomed CDC Data Centres as a new major partner of the organisation and said he was looking forward to the future of cricket in the ACT.

“In these uncertain times, this partnership provides stability and a positive message that Cricket ACT is planning to exit the COVID pandemic in a healthy state.”

Each age group has a different fixture; however, most will include four teams competing across six matches.

Cricket ACT is yet to confirm a start date for the competitions but hopes to get them kicked off from September or October this year.

CDC Data Centres CEO Greg Boorer said he was excited to see the progress of the cricket competitions.

“I look forward to watching the Cricket ACT pathway program grow to become the best, and best performing, junior development program in Australia,” he said.

“I think that needs to be the ambition at a minimum and hopefully our contribution will be the beginning of something quite special for cricket in the ACT.”

CDC Data Centres will also be a supporting parent of a potential U15 National Championships, which it is hoped will be held in Canberra next year.

Cricket ACT high performance manager, Olivia Thorton, said while this event was not yet confirmed, the organisation would continue to push and challenge the local competition.

“In addition to the CDC Bash, the proposed National Championships will provide both the U15 Male and U15 Female ACT teams with quality competitive playing opportunities against the best opposition available,” she said.

“This will be invaluable for their ongoing development. The CDC Bash will be used as a selection tool for the U15s National Championships.”
