Canberra-born Australian actress and screen legend Sigrid Thornton AO has entered the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! jungle as an intruder.
2025 marks the 11th season of the television show, which is filmed in the South African jungle.
With a career spanning across four decades, Thornton is an icon of the Australian television and film industry, appearing in films including The Man from Snowy River and Return to Snowy River and television series including SeaChange, Prisoner, Underbelly and Wentworth.
The Logie Awards winner’s appearance in the Peter Allen โ Not the Boy Next Door miniseries won her the AACTA best supporting actor award for her portrayal of Judy Garland.
She has also appeared on stage in theatre productions.
Thornton said entering the jungle was way out of her comfort zone.
โI accepted this challenge instinctively and chose not to overanalyse that instinct,โ she said.
โWhile I can seem intense, deep down Iโm really a bit of a dag.
โIโm looking forward to having a meaningful shared experience with my campmates.โ
Upon seeing Thornton enter the jungle and meeting her campmates, Australian comedian Dave Hughes said she was a โlegendโ.
In a scene on the show, Thornton said it was โa bit strangeโ entering the jungle later than the other contestants but said everyone was lovely.
โThereโs a tremendous sense of warmth, comradery, and family. Itโs great,โ she said.
Thornton also reminisced with Iโm a Celebrity host Robert Irwin, about holding snakes with his parents Steve and Terri Irwin.
Thornton said the meeting with Steve was a โspecial momentโ
The actress’s first challenge in the jungle was being locked in a confined underground space with snakes called the Viper Room.
In an interview with The Project presenter Sarah Harris, Thornton said she prepared for the jungle by spending some time in the bush riding horses and learning bushcraft for The Man from Snowy River.
