Iconic Cusack Centre changes hands for first time since 1918

The Cusack Centre in Kingston has been sold to new owners for the first time in generations.

“The first Cusack’s furniture store was established in Canberra in 1918,” Colliers Director of Capital Markets, Matthew Winter said.

“In most of our community’s living memory, the Cusack Centre owned by the Cusack family, has always held pride of place in the popular inner south suburb of Kingston.

“Last week, following a discreet EOI process, the Cusack Centre changed hands for the first time. What is particularly nice is that it has been purchased by another local family group.

“The Cusack Centre consists of two buildings offering a combined 3900sqm of net lettable area. The iconic buildings front the popular dining and retail precinct of Green Square and provide a series of attractive north-facing restaurant and café premises with an unmatched outlook. Just over the road are the new Eyre Street Markets.

“The upper floor of the north building has great views and untapped potential, while the southern building has potential for future redevelopment subject to approvals.

“It was really pleasing to see the level of interest there was in the market to secure a slice of Canberra’s history.”
