Indigenous company will build Gorton car park in ACT

Indigenous-owned construction company Barpa will design and build the John Gorton Campus Car Park in Parkes, at a cost of $80.8 million.

The Department of Finance selected the company after a competitive procurement process.

Barpa has constructed projects in remote, regional, and urban Australia.

Senator Katy Gallagher, Minister for Finance, Women, and the Public Service, said this demonstrates the Government’s strong commitment to supporting Indigenous business.

The multi-level car park will be constructed next to the John Gorton Building before work begins on the National Security Office Precinct Project at York Park.

The car park will provide approximately 1,100 car spaces, replacing car parking at York Park, and supporting worker and visitor amenity, including for the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, and the future Ngurra Cultural Precinct.

The car park will include electric vehicle charging stations and a childcare centre for 170 children.

Construction will begin mid-year, and will be completed late next year.

The John Gorton Campus Car Park will be completed before work begins on the Precinct structure.
