Many of us saw the second lockdown coming, but these local food businesses were ready with innovative ideas for iso dining. From high-end takeaway to pop-up drive-through, here are five local eateries looking after you in lockdown.
Daana
Unit 2/83 Theodore Street, Curtin
This family-owned eatery has won plenty of awards for its Indian cuisine. Open Monday to Saturday for delivery and contactless takeaway, Daana is switching up their menu each week to ensure variety for their customers during lockdown. As of today, they are once again running Daana’s Frozen Meals, an extremely popular choice during lockdown last year, allowing customers to stock up on a supply of delicious curries.
That’s right, living in lockdown doesn’t have to mean cooking every night. Dine on your favourite butter chicken while still limiting your exposure to the outside world. Daana is also in the process of launching Daana’s Pantry, providing the ingredients to make their curries in the comfort of your own kitchen.

The Hellenic Club
Matilda Street, Phillip
The Hellenic Club Woden’s Greek and Asian cuisine is the one of the most accessible option for a delicious night in right now, with their contactless drive-through back in full effect. Fantasise about dining on a beach terrace in Mykonos, while enjoying their moussaka, tender souvlaki, and pan-fried calamari doused in lemon juice. Also available at the Hellenic Club drive-though is their upstairs restaurant, Ginseng’s, multi-award-winning menu, offering a vast selection of innovative and fresh Chinese cuisine. Voted Best Chinese Restaurant in Southern NSW for the past five years, and still providing their family-favourite Yum Cha packages, this may be a great option for families celebrating Father’s Day (Sunday 5 September) in iso.

Lazy Su
1/9 Lonsdale Street, Braddon
Everyone’s go-to venue for a fancy dinner and trendy Pan-Asian vibes, the Braddon staple has previously left all takeaway options to its cheaper branch, Baby Su. This lockdown, however, Lazy Su is running takeaway and delivery options, including for their ever-popular two-person banquet: wagyu cheese spring rolls, tea-smoked duck pancakes, and yuzu macarons, oh my. They offer kerbside pickup for takeaway orders, just pull up out front and they will run the food out to your car. The perfect option for date night in lockdown, or anyone who wants to take advantage of their favourite fusion meals being delivered to your door.

Malatang Zhangliang
40 Marcus Clarke Street, City
Haven’t heard of Malatang? Now’s the perfect time to try it.
The name of the Sichuanese street-food directly translates to ‘spicy numbing soup’. Personally, I have yet to try a better cure for the chills of a Canberra winter. Malatang Zhangliang, located between Baby Su and No Name Lane, is still providing delivery and takeaway, sending you home with a bucket of spicy hot pot. The uniqueness of malatang restaurants lies in customers picking their favourite ingredients out of a supermarket-like produce display, which Malatang Zhangliang still allows you to do. Vegan options are also available. Delicious food made with traditional ingredients!
