Vale Enrico Taglietti
The Australian Institute of Architects has offered its condolences to family, friends and colleagues following the passing of Dr Enrico Taglietti LFRAIA, the 2007 recipient of the Institute’s highest honour, the Gold Medal.
An outstanding architect of national significance, Taglietti made a major contribution to the growth of the national capital.
His practice has had a long commitment to domestic architecture but has also built many public buildings including schools, churches and major commercial buildings. Notable projects included the McKeown House (1965), the Church of St Anthony (1965) and the Embassy of Italy Chancellery (1974). Notable public buildings included the St Kilda Library in Melbourne (1972), Giralang Primary School and Preschool (1975), Apostolic Nunciature (1978), the Australian War Memorial Repository (1979), the Forrest Early Childhood Centre in Canberra (1991), and Dickson Library (1995).
“The passing of Dr Enrico Taglietti is time to reflect on the immense contribution and influence of a passionate immigrant architect who chose Canberra as his hometown. His beautiful idiosyncratic buildings have forever changed Canberra’s built environment and leave a lasting legacy for generations to enjoy,” ACT Chapter President, Philip Leeson said.
Renovating to win
Gundaroo couple Katie and Alex Middlemiss made a stellar start to the House Rules competition, winning the first whole house challenge with 35 points. After receiving 25 points from the judges, the couple received a perfect 10 from homeowners Pete and Courtney for their efforts transforming the bathroom, Casper’s bedroom and Pete’s walk-in wardrobe.

The Canberra Environment Centre (CEC) is running a number of workshops in May and June as part of the SustainAbility Workshops series including: Halve your household waste on Tuesday 21 May 10am-12pm, $10; Intro to Bokashi composting on Tuesday 18 June 6-7.30pm, $30; and Creating a garden for the Canberra climate on Thursday 20 June 6-8pm, $30.
