Inside & out: Sleeping preferences

Sleeping preferences poll

Victory Blinds has conducted a poll of the sleeping habits and preferences of 2,000 Australian adults. Just 5% of people reported getting the full eight hours; the most common amount of sleep per night was five hours (44%), followed by six hours (23%) and 8% of respondents reported just four hours per night. Victory Blinds spokesperson Stuart Clark said the pressures of everyday made it difficult to get the recommended eight hours a night but making small changes to your bedroom routine could help. “Avoiding caffeine after 12pm, taking a warm shower or bath before bed, and ensuring your bedroom is a comfortable temperature and dark enough to help you drift off can help in improving not only the length of your sleep, but also the quality.”

Dirt no more

Dyson is trying to raise awareness about air pollution in cities across the world with their air quality backpack project. Re-working existing sensing technology used in Dyson air purifiers, Dyson’s air quality backpack is a portable air sensing device which collects air pollution data on the move. With on-board sensors, a battery pack and GPS, Dyson hopes to use this sophisticated technology to offer insight into personal exposure to air pollution and how to avoid it.
