International Women’s Day 2024 events in Canberra

Friday 8 March is International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is #InspireInclusion, meaning IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere.

We’ve compiled a list of events happening to celebrate IWD in Canberra this year.

From fundraising events to an empowering UN Women luncheon featuring inspiring speakers and a wine dinner celebrating female winemakers from the Canberra Region, there’s something for everyone.

Marymead CatholicCare IWD event

Join the Marymead CatholicCare Auxiliary at their International Women’s Day dinner on Wednesday 6 March 6.30pm at Statesman Hotel, Curtin. Special guest speaker Tess Graham will be discussing the importance of proper breathing with ‘Just Breathe … Better’. Soroptimist Canberra IWD Breakfast

The Canberra Soroptimist International Women’s Day Breakfast is on Friday 8 March 6.45am at Canberra Deakin Football Club, 3 Grose St, Deakin. Proceeds will fund scholarships for migrant and refugee women studying at the Canberra Institute of Technology. Tickets: $45, includes full breakfast, a talk by Rebecca Armstrong (Executive Director Synergy), plus live music by the group, Air and Grace.

UNWA Canberra Chapter IWD luncheon

United Nations Women Australia (UNWA) Canberra Chapter hosts an annual International Women’s Day luncheon. On Friday 8 March, join UNWA to celebrate under the theme, ‘Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.’ Hear from leaders and changemakers who are working to re-shape the system and remove the barriers so all women and girls can unlock their potential and drive better outcomes for us all. The national keynote speaker is Michele Bullock, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Uncorked: A Celebration of Canberran Women in Wine at QT Canberra

Every sip tells a story and this International Women’s Day, QT Canberra will raise a glass to the greatest female winemakers in the Canberran wine-world at Uncorked. On Friday 8 March, Capitol Bar & Grill’s Sommelier Ashleigh Smith will be joined by four fearless females behind the Canberra Wine District’s most popular local wineries for a decadent three-course dinner. Sarah Collingwood, CEO of Four Winds Vineyard, Chrissie Smith, Owner of Intrepidus Wines, Emma Shaw, General Manager of Collector Wines, and Carla Rodeghiero, Founder & Director of Sapling Yard, will take guests on a journey, sharing a story or two about their careers as well as tasting notes of the harvests that put them on the map.

Starting at 6pm under the evening glow of the Capitol Bar & Grill deck, dinner designed to share will follow and live music will let laughter and libations flow.

Tickets are $129 per person, with part-proceeds to be donated to local not-for-profit Karinya House, who help women in Canberra and the surrounding regions provide safety, shelter and a positive support network.
