Jack Wighton and Josh Papalii named to back up against Broncos

Canberra stars Jack Wighton and Josh Papalii have been named to back up from Origin Game One for the club’s blockbuster round 14 clash with the Broncos on Saturday night.

The duo missed the Raiders 22-16 win over the Roosters last week due to Origin duties, but will give the team a boost as they come up against an in form Brisbane side at Suncorp.

Matt Frawley makes way for Wighton to partner Jamal Fogarty in the halves for just the second time this season, while Papalii’s inclusion pushes Corey Horsburgh back to the bench.

Corey Harawira-Naera returns on the pine for his first game since round 10, while Trey Mooney drops out of the 17.

Jordan Rapana will miss the clash after picking up a one-week suspension for a stray boot on the Roosters’ Egan Butcher. James Schiller moves to the starting wing spot after going unused on the bench last week.

Meanwhile, the Broncos have a number of players set to back up from Wednesday’s Origin encounter with Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo, Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan all named. Queensland’s Kurt Capewell has not been named with Teui Robati to play in the back row.

Captain and star halfback Adam Reynolds will also return from injury to partner Ezra Mam in the halves.

The Raiders have won four of their past five matches and sit 11th on the ladder, just two points behind 7th. The Broncos have been one of the big improvers in 2022 and sit in 4th spot with 8 wins from 12 games.
