Men putting off health care

With ‘Movember’ officially underway, a new survey by health retailer Healthy Life has revealed that more than one million Australian men are going for at least two years without seeking health advice. According to the survey, men aged 35-44 were the worst offenders and nearly one in 10 men from the ACT hadn’t sought health help for more than two years. “These statistics reveal that men aren’t as good at asking for help as women,” says Healthy Life chief marketing officer Simon Cheng. He says Healthy Life is reducing prices on some of their most popular men’s products for a few days in November “in the hope it will prompt more Aussie men to visit us and start a conversation about any nagging health issues, especially if it’s been troubling them for a couple of years or more”.

Synthetic swap

Skincare brand Sukin is providing an opportunity to swap out a synthetic product from your beauty cabinet with a natural equivalent. According to Sukin, over 50% of Australian women would prefer to use natural skincare but many are yet to make the switch. The Synthetic Swap campaign is designed to let natural products do the talking, whilst making it easier to make a natural choice when it comes to skin, hair and body products. Each month, the first 100 people to send their synthetic product via the website will receive a natural Sukin range product for free.

Endometriosis awareness

A new campaign launched by Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, Endo Wise, reveals the often silent condition of endometriosis (aka ‘endo’) which affects up to one in 10 women. Endo Wise explores the crippling disease, with eight women sharing their very personal stories—from symptoms to diagnosis and how they manage the condition. The campaign, supported by the Australian Government, helps educate women, their family and friends on what endo can look like and how it can be successfully managed.
