Nineteen-year-old Kenan Dowden-Carlisle has has appeared in court today after being charged with murdering 29-year-old Jordan Powell in Civic on Saturday morning.
At about 9.45am on Saturday, 4 December, police were called to assist a man who had collapsed in Garema Place and, despite the best efforts of the public and emergency services, he died.
Police then located Mr Dowden-Carlisle at around 10.30am before a foot chase ensued where police caught and arrested the man.
Mr Dowden-Carlisle, from Greenleigh near Queanbeyan NSW, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning via video link from the Alexander Machonocie Centre where he remains in custody.
Magistrate James Stewart said the murder allegation related to a fight in a public area that involved a knife.
Mr Stewart indicated he had spoken to Mr Dowden-Carlisle on Saturday evening as part of a forensic procedure and said the teenager hadn’t slept for several days at that point.
Mr Dowden-Carlisle did not make an application for bail and Mr Stewart remanded him in custody. The teenager will appear in court via video link for a final forensic procedure application next Monday.
He will then face court again on Friday 17 December when the murder charge will be mentioned.
