KimoYES is ready to reopen

Specialists in vintage Japanese fabric and clothing, KimoYES is ready to reopen and will be flinging open their doors on Saturday 13 June.

Owner Jill Grant says the Phillip store has been closed for three months due to COVID-19, and she’s looking forward to welcoming back customers both old and new.

“We’ll be having lots of special deals to celebrate our survival over the three months,” she says. “There’ll be many giveaways over the reopening weekend along with lots of super specials!”

KimoYES began as an internet-based business in 2004, and the physical store in Phillip opened six years ago.

“Our main product is vintage Japanese kimono fabric, which includes silks, wool and yukata cottons,” Jill says. The fabrics are available in pieces or off the bolt.

“We also sell a range of Japanese garments and obi for adults and children, including cotton yukata gowns which have been made in Japan but sized to fit the Western market.

“We cater for dressmakers, designers, interior decorators, craftspeople, artists, quilters, patch workers, jewellery makers, embroiderers and more!”

Aside from the gorgeous array of fabrics on offer, KimoYES also stocks a range of handmade accessories, including scarves and jewellery, as well as unique quilted craft kits and patterns.

“Customers can also find small to medium Japanese antiques in the shop,” says Jill, “sake sets and cups, teapots, kokeshi and other dolls, metal and wooden ornaments, Japanese restaurant aprons, shibori scarves and boro.”

You’ll also find small pieces of furniture such as chests of drawers, bento boxes, vases, plates and “lots of interesting Japanese curios”.

“We also sell a large range of difficult-to-find antique Japanese, indigo-dyed cottons; mainly ikats that have been handwoven and some hand-stencilled cottons, all at good prices.”
