KiteFest returns to Googong this Father’s Day

Kites will fill the sky once again at Googong, with the highly anticipated KiteFest returning after a three-year hiatus caused by the national pandemic.

Taking flight on Father’s Day, Sunday 4 September, families and the wider community are encouraged to join the festivities by bringing down their own favourite kite and picnic blankets, celebrating both Fathers and kites alike.

One of the Googong’s most beloved festivals is expected to bring kite enthusiasts from all over the state, bringing with them kites of all shapes and sizes, some which have never been seen before.

Malcolm Leslie, Senior Project Director for Googong, said community events such as KiteFest help build the township’s community.

“Googong has been designed with community at the heart of it. Events such as KiteFest bring residents together and help to create a more inclusive community for everyone to enjoy,” said Mr Leslie.

“We have had to put a number of festivities on hold over the past few years, and with events an integral part of Googong’s focus, it is exciting to have KiteFest back on the event calendar, big and better than ever before.”

To help celebrate the return of KiteFest, viral sensation Sue Freeman from Run Around DJ’s will be back to provide lively entertainment. Event goers will also have a range of food to indulge in, including The Meat Wizard, Cinnaglaze, and Googong Hogs AFL Club holding a fundraising sausage sizzle.

“The event showcases how much Googong has grown in less than a decade. As the community continues to grow, events such as KiteFest provide the opportunity for residents to make strong connections and feel part of a community.”

KiteFest is proudly hosted by Googong, a joint venture between leading residential developers Peet and Mirvac. The township is currently home to over 6,000 people, with 18,000 people expected at the development’s completion.
