Lamborghini driver strikes cyclist on Melbourne’s Chapel Street

A cyclist has been seriously injured after being struck by a Lamborghini in a popular entertainment district of Melbourne.

The man, 46, was crossing the road when hit about 10.30pm on Saturday night on Chapel Street in Prahran, a few hundred metres from nightclub Revolver Upstairs.

He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said on Sunday.

A passenger in the car, 14, was treated for minor injuries.

The Lamborghini driver, a 24-year-old Sunshine West man, was charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury and reckless conduct endangering life.

He was bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on October 16.

Chapel Street is one of Melbourne’s most popular nightclub districts, with more than a dozen bars drawing in thousands of revellers every Friday and Saturday night.

The street also has a notorious reputation among cyclists, voted the scariest spot in Melbourne for riders in the 2020 Bikespot survey.

The local council is considering separated bike lanes and other cycling safety measures on the key route.
