In what looks like a Canberra first, the Latham Primary School fete has been reimagined and relocated online, after COVID-19 stopped organisers in their tracks.
The fete will now take place between 3pm and 7pm this Saturday 24 October, inviting the wider school community to enjoy the traditional event with a 2020 twist.
Fete coordinator Jo Dynon said event organisation had been a group effort from the Latham Primary School P&C.
“We put a lot of thought into how the traditional fete could be transformed in an online format, to re-create an exciting experience for families, students and the wider community,” she said.
The fete will kick off with a ‘Lap around Latham’ from a group of muscle cars, replacing the event’s regular Show ‘n Shine.
“The cars will follow a set route through the suburb, including passing the school,” Ms Dynon said.
“That will be followed by more entertainment in the form of videos presented on both the fete Facebook page and website.”
In between interactive posts and events, attendees will be able to shop fete favourites, such as hand painted pots, indoor plants and kids’ toys, at the online store.
There will also be a range of raffles drawn across the event, with the chance to win mega raffles put together with generous donations from over 50 businesses.
Ms Dynon said last but not least would be the fete’s online trivia night to wrap up the rolling program of activities.
“Fete day ends with an online trivia night. It’s the only thing we are charging for on the day – $5 entry, tickets available during the pre-sale,” she said.
“We were lucky to have a range of parents willing to take on varying tasks through the process. As fete day draws near, there is an excitement in the air both at school and on our social media channels.
“This has not been done before, I think everyone is keen to hear how things go.”
