Lifeline Canberra’s Southside Bookfair this weekend

Lifeline Canberra will hold its annual Southside Bookfair at the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Basketball stadium this weekend (28 to 30 June).

Those living in the area will be able to pick up a bargain this weekend, and have the convenience of donating their preloved items directly to the Bookfair without driving across town to Mitchell warehouse.

Patrons who bring along their donations will receive an exclusive donor tote bag for their generosity, highlighting that “this person donated books to the Lifeline Canberra Bookfair”.

The donations made by the community keep the Bookfair coming back again and again with new and varied stock made up of pre-loved items.

Lifeline Canberra CEO Carrie Leeson said: “Our Lifeline Canberra volunteers work tirelessly throughout the year to collect, clean, repair, and package every book that comes into our warehouse, preparing it to find a new home.

“The support we receive from the community is heartwarming. There is something profoundly humbling about a Bookfair, and we are thrilled to host three of them each year, thanks to the generous donations of books and other items.

“Our Bookfairs raise a significant portion of the funding needed to keep our local 13 11 14 crisis support and suicide prevention service available to the community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in sustaining this vital service.”

The Bookfair is expected to welcome thousands of people through the doors, and books will be restocked continually.

Family activities will take place on Saturday 29 June, from 10 – 12.

This year, an accessible browsing hour has been introduced on Sunday morning, from 9 – 10am, to provide a calmer experience.

Entry is by gold coin donation. All proceeds go directly to Canberra’s local 13 11 14 crisis support and suicide prevention service, changing lives for the better.

The Bookfair is held:

  • 9am to 6pm. Friday 28th June
  • 9am to 5pm. Saturday 29th June
  • 9am to 4pm. Sunday 30th June

Venue: Tuggeranong Southern Cross Basketball Stadium. 7 Pitman St, Greenway ACT 2900
