Lyneham man charged with rape after naked woman found running and screaming in street

A 44-year-old Lyneham man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, 11 June, charged with forcible confinement and sexual intercourse without consent.

About 7pm on Monday 10 June, police were on mobile patrol on Fairweather Circuit Lyneman when they observed a naked woman running up the street screaming.

Police immediately stopped and took the woman into the police vehicle, where she alleged she had been confined to a nearby residence by a man for a number of days.

She also alleged that during this period, the man had committed a number of assaults and sexual assaults against her, causing numerous injuries.

Police attended the man’s residence and arrested him a short time later. He has been charged with four offences – forcible confinement, sexual intercourse without consent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and fail to appear.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, and further charges are anticipated.

If you are a victim of family or sexual violence, or believe someone you know is, you can contact police on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency, or attend any police station.
