A 32-year-old man has been accused of holding Nick Kyrgios’ mother at gunpoint and stealing his Tesla yesterday.
According to the ABC, details about the brazen robbery were heard in the ACT Magistrates Court today, 2 May, which showed Mr Kyrgios played a role in the man’s arrest.
The man allegedly knocked on the door of the Kyrgios family home at 8.30am on Monday 1 May, before pointing a long-barrel gun at Mr Kyrgios’ mother, Norlaila.
Court documents show he then demanded she hand over the keys to Nick’s green Tesla, parked in the driveway. He then asked her to show him how to drive it, to which she replied, she did not know as it was not her car.
According to police, Mrs Kyrigos ran back inside the home and screamed for help when the man got inside the car.
The documents showed Mr Kyrgios was then able to track his vehicle and slow the car down by using his Tesla app.
The police pursued the Tesla for a short while before ending the chase as is entered a school zone. Mr Kyrgios was able to continue tracking the vehicle and tactical officers were able to block the Tesla and arrest the man later in Ainslie.
The man was charged with aggravated robbery, driving a stolen motor vehicle, furious driving, and fail to stop for police and was denied bail.
