Man arrested as stolen piglets reunited with mum

A 39-year-old man has been arrested and faced court today in relation to the theft of four piglets from the Yarralumla Play Station that took place last week.

Yesterday police and RSPCA attended a Deakin address, after being tipped off by a member of the public, where they discovered four piglets.

RSPCA officers assessed the piglets and removed them from the residence before returning them to the Yarralumla Play Station.

“We have some great news! The piglets have been found and returned,” Yarralumla Play Station management wrote on Facebook.

“A huge thank you to everyone for spreading the word, to ACT Police for recovering them, and an extra special thank you to the good Samaritan who reported it to the police.

“The piglets were super hungry, they didn’t even give mum a chance to lie down before trying to feed, and thankfully mum was just as grateful to see them again as well.”

Those piglets, along with two frizzle chickens, a Polish rooster and three light brown and white turkeys were reported to have been stolen from their pens last Thursday 27 August.

An adolescent pig located in the backyard of the house was also removed.

The man faced court today charged with possessing stolen goods as well as possessing a prohibited substance after police also discovered and seized nine cannabis plants, seedlings and hydroponic equipment while searching the property.

A number of firearms were also located and police expect additional weapons charges to be laid.

The other animals stolen from the Yarralumla Play Station are yet to be found.

“Hopefully the police can extract their location from the people that had the piglets, but if you happen to see (or hear) a little black and a little white frizzle chicken, or a Polish rooster with an attitude, and three large turkeys then please let the police know,” wrote Yarralumla Play Station management.
