A 34-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning following his alleged involvement in a violent home invasion in Stirling earlier this month.
About 5:20am on Saturday 3 August, two men allegedly broke into a residence in Stirling and assaulted the three occupants.Â
During the altercation, it is alleged the men struck the occupants on the head multiple times with various objects including a picture frame, and used a taser-like device on one of the residents.
All three victims were transported to hospital with serious injuries as a result of the assault.
Following an extensive investigation, police located one of the men believed to have participated in the assault incident, in a black BMW in Kambah yesterday.
When police attempted a traffic stop on the BMW, it failed to stop and took off.
A short time later, the BMW and a white Volkswagen Golf were again observed at another location in Kambah, where two men – one being the 34-year-old – were seen getting into the Volkswagen Golf.
Police directed the Volkswagen to stop, but it failed to do so. Due to the risk to the community, a pursuit was not commenced.
About 4.30pm yesterday afternoon, police were patrolling in Curtin, when the 34-year-old was observed standing at a bus stop.
The man attempted to flee on foot, but was located and safely apprehended by police a short distance away.
He has been charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of joint commission assault occasioning actual bodily harm, joint commission causing grievous bodily harm, going equipped for theft, breach of bail, failing to stop for police, and driving without a licence.
Enquiries relating to the second man responsible for the Stirling assault and the driver of the white Volkswagen Golf are continuing.
