An 18-year-old man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant appeared in court yesterday charged following the alleged wounding of another man with a tomahawk on the NSW South Coast earlier this week.
About 10.15pm on Tuesday 22 March, emergency services were called to a home on Beach Road, Surf Beach, following reports of a domestic violence-related incident between a man and woman.
An 18-year-old man attended the property, where it was alleged he attacked a 29-year-old man known to him with a tomahawk before fleeing.
The older man suffered injuries to his legs and abdomen and was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers attached to South Coast Police District issued an arrest warrant for the younger man, and following inquiries, he presented to Batemans Bay Police Station, about 12pm on Thursday 24 March.
He was arrested and charged with one count of wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (domestic violence).
The Surf Beach man was refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court yesterday, Friday 25 March.
