A 30-year-old man from Garran has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged machete attack at a home in Wanniassa earlier this year.
At approximately 5pm on Wednesday 4 September, police and emergency services responded to reports of a severely injured man at a residence on Ashley Drive, Wanniassa.
Upon arrival, the victim was found with life-threatening injuries, including multiple deep cuts and fractures. ACT Ambulance Service paramedics provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting him to hospital, where he underwent lifesaving surgery and was placed in an induced coma for four days.
The alleged offender fled the scene before police arrived. Officers from the Major Crime Squad launched an investigation to identify and locate the suspect.
Yesterday, Thursday 21 November, police intercepted the 30-year-old man as he boarded an interstate bus. He was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder. He is due to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident and believe there are individuals who may have crucial information about the attack or the suspect’s movements afterward. Investigators are also seeking information about the weapon allegedly used in the assault. Anyone who has seen the weapon or knows its location is encouraged to come forward.
